What climbers grow well in pots?

Give the vines plenty of space; some varieties can grow 15 feet (4.6m) in a single season. Since most morning glory vines die every year, allowing your morning glory to climb living trees is acceptable as the vines will not harm the tree. (Don’t try this in areas with mild winters, which morning glories can survive.)

Climbing plants and wall shrubs cover walls, fences, unsightly features, arches, obelisks and pergolas. True climbers take up little ground space, and are excellent choices for smaller gardens, whereas wall shrubs require more ground space. Popular plants are: clematis, roses, wisteria and honeysuckle.

Choosing a Pot. For growing grapes in containers, choose a large and sturdy container that can support this vigorous vine. A 15-20 gallon pot that is at least 16-18 inches deep and 18-24 inches wide is sufficient. Start with a smaller sized pot and then repot the plant in a larger one.

Morning glories are twining plants that can grow up to 10 feet tall in the right conditions. They’re fast growing and attach to almost anything they can reach, but they’re ideal for growing indoors in pots if you provide enough support and sunlight.

The Morning Glory is a beautiful, flowering climbing vine (although a shrub variety is also available). While not all species are poisonous, some may cause significant signs when large amounts of seeds are ingested. The seeds from the flowers of some species contain the toxin, lysergic alkaloids.

Fortunately, eating morning glory flowers is not dangerous, unless the child chokes. BUT the seeds can be poisonous, especially in large quantities. They contain a chemical similar to LSD. Symptoms can range widely, from diarrhea to hallucinations.

Flower flavors can vary from sweet to bitter. Look for recipes to try before you start grazing through your flowerbed. Also be sure you can positively identify a flower as edible. A few flowers that should not be eaten include iris, foxglove, hydrangea, morning glory and amaryllis.
