What color light is 4000k?

The popular colors available for LEDs are “warm white” or “soft white,” and “bright white.” Warm white and soft white will produce a yellow hue, close to incandescents, while bulbs labeled as bright white will produce a whiter light, closer to daylight and similar to what you see in retail stores.

At the lower end of the scale, from 2000K to 3000K, the light produced is called “warm white” and ranges from orange to yellow-white in appearance. Color temperatures between 3100K and 4500K are referred to as “cool white” or “bright white.”

Neutral White bulbs fall within the range of 4000K to 4700K. They impart a clear, white light with very little red or blue tones, but appears more “cooler” than halogen light. A “cool” white bulb commonly has a color temperature of 5000K or above.

There are several other light bulbs that are a better choice for your eye health, including traditional incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs, and halogen bulbs. Warm white fluorescent CFLs can be a good replacement, but do know that they still emit a small amount of UV rays.

As the color temperature increases to 3000K – 3500K, the color of the light appears less yellow and more white. When the color temperature is 5000K or higher the light produced appears bluish white. The color temperature of daylight varies, but is often in the 5000K to 7000K range.

Standard 100-watt bulbs produce about 1600 lumens. Watts – the amount of energy a light bulb uses. The lower the watts, the lower the electric bill. CFLs and LEDs have a lower wattage than incandescent bulbs, but emit the same light output.

A measure of the color of a light source relative to a black body at a particular temperature expressed in degrees Kelvin (K). Incandescent lights have a low color temperature (approx. 2800K) and have a red-yellowish tone. Warm white LED Lamps have a color temperature between 2700-3500K.

You may have see “Daylight” bulbs, which are included at the low end of this Kelvin temperature range. The whitest natural light occurs when the sun is directly overhead. The closest light bulbs will be in the “Daylight” range on some packaging. You now know that this is the 4000-6500K range for fluorescent bulbs.

LED color temperature is measured using the Kelvin scale represented by numbers followed by a “K”. Manufacturers and retailers can differ in their definition of the light range titles, but typically: Warm White is around 2700K to 3500K, Natural White is around 4000K to 4500K, Cool White is around 5000K to 6500K.

An LED with a Temperature of 2700K produces very warm almost golden white light and 7000K is a very cool white that can in some applications appear to have a light blue glow. 3000K is a soft warm white, 3500K or 4000K is in the range of bright warm white, and beyond that it becomes bright cool white.

For the average living room of 250 square feet, you’ll need 5,000 lumens as your primary light source (20 lumens x 250 square feet), equivalent to about five 100 watt incandescent light bulbs, five 23 watt CFLs, or eight 10 watt LED light bulbs.

A colour changing LED isn’t one LED in a package but three LEDs along with a small computer to drive them. The LED is made up of red, green and blue LEDs each of which can be controlled by a microcontroller. This is still done using the three basic red, green & blue elements.

You will notice that the colour next to the Average noon daylight (5500K) is white. This is the colour temperature that colour film is balanced to which means that when shooting using daylight film the photograph will record white objects as white and all the colours in an image will appear natural on the film.

Are Soft White & Warm White the same thing? Yes. Soft White and Warm White are interchangeable descriptors to indicate the color temperature of the light that the bulb emits. Soft/Warm White bulbs emit a light temperature of 2,700K.

Kelvin is a unit of measurement used to describe the hue of a specific light source. The higher the Kelvin value of the light source, the closer the light’s color output will be to actual sunlight. Bulbs with an output of 3500K or lower on the scale will have an amber hue.

The brightness or intensity of light is measured in lumens. For example, when you are indoors, most artificial light is around 400 to 600 lumens. If you go outside on a sunny day, the brightness ranges from about 1,000 lumens in the shade to more than 6,000 lumens on a large stretch of concrete, like a highway.
