What is the planning model?

The development of goals, strategies, task lists and schedules required to achieve the objectives of a business. The planning process is a fundamental function of management and should result in the best possible degree of need satisfaction given the resources available.

Planning models exist at a macroscopic level; they serve as an organizing framework for an entire health promotion effort aimed at fostering reduction in a given disease. A particularly useful, widely applied, and easy-to-follow example of a planning model is the PRECEDE-PROCEED planning model (PPM).

Rational Planning: Definition. The rational planning model is the process of realizing a problem, establishing and evaluating planning criteria, crating alternatives, implementing alternatives, and monitoring progress of the alternatives. Used in designing neighborhoods, cities, and regions.

Organic planning is far more inclusive and adaptive, but that does not mean it’s not strategic. As a unique approach to company growth, organic planning focuses on best practices, processes and the methods a business uses to get things done. People are encouraged to focus on what is working rather than problems.

Rational decision making is a multi-step process for making choices between alternatives. The process of rational decision making favors logic, objectivity, and analysis over subjectivity and insight. The word “rational” in this context does not mean sane or clear-headed as it does in the colloquial sense.

Real-Time Strategic Planning in a Rapid-Response World. “Real-Time Strategic Planning” is a fluid, organic process that helps nonprofits identify, understand, and act on challenges and opportunities as they arise — today, not in six months when the “new plan” is done.

The definition of “strategy model” exists within the term itself. Basically, a strategy model constitutes a strategic plan, or model, designed to improve a process. Organizations use strategy models to improve operations and meet their goals.

The opposite of intuitive decision making is rational decision making, which is when individuals use analysis, facts and a step-by-step process to come to a decision. Porter also indicates that, in response to these five factors, competitive strategy can take one of three generic forms: (1) focus, (2) differentiation, and (3) cost leadership.

Rational-comprehensive decision-making. A theoretical model of how public policy decisions are (or perhaps ought to be) taken. All possible options or approaches to solving the problem under study are identified and the costs and benefits of each option are assessed and compared with each other.

An incremental analysis is a decision-making technique used in business to determine the true cost difference between alternatives. Also called the relevant cost approach, marginal analysis or differential analysis, incremental analysis disregards any sunk cost.

A rational decision making approach is a methodical approach in which data that has been obtained through observation or statistical analysis or modeling is used in making decisions that are long-term.

SWOT analysis is a straightforward model that analyzes an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to create the foundation of a marketing strategy. To do so, it takes into account what an organization can and cannot do as well
